Eden Project & Cornwall
Have you heard of the Eden Project. What is it? It is approximately one and a half hours drive from Exeter. It is a wonderful wonderland of international plants in huge biodomes. This special place is evolving as we write, and is a horticultural and environmental experience, for the individual and has implications for the whole world. The world is represented here in this disused china clay quarry in Cornwall.
In their website, this is what the Eden Project Foundation says about itself: "The breadth of the Eden Project extends beyond the creation of the biomes and visitor displays, spectacular and successful as these are. The objective is to create an organisation that works for environmental, economic and social health at a local, through to national and international level. The Eden foundation underlies the public face of the Eden Project, directing the broader scientific, research and education programmes that further the Eden Project mission and helping to define the philosophy and direction of Eden. In short, building on the achievements of Eden as a visitor experience, the Eden foundation is developing as a centre of excellence for research and teaching in science communication." (quote from http://www.edenproject.com/3608.htm).
